Christmas Letter from James Barnett our District Superintendent
“But the angel said to them, ‘Do not be afraid; for see — I am bringing you good new of great joy for all the people: to you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is the Messiah, the Lord.’” Luke 2:10-11
Greetings! Christmas is almost upon us– a truly joyous time of our year! The words of the angel to the shepherds capture the underlying truth of the Gospel— “Do not be afraid”! So often the broader culture caricatures the message of the church as being one of fear, condemnation, and judgement. That is so far off the mark! The Gospel is “good news”. The Gospel is a message of love, hope, joy, and peace. Just the sort of message that our world still longs to hear! It is my prayer that as you lead your congregation through the remainder of this season, that you continue to boldly proclaim the message that God loves the world! As this year comes to a close (and my first 6 months with you), I simply want to express my gratitude for your leadership, faith, and commitment to the people of your congregation as well as the community in which you find yourselves. I am still in the process of making my way around to your parish and to your churches, but let me simply say that where I have worshiped, I have been touched by the Spirit among you. Where I have visited with you in your communities, I have been impressed with the opportunities which lay before you and your congregations. I very much look forward to continuing my rounds after the Holidays. I realize that this is one of the “big” seasons in the life of the church, but I want to encourage you to take time to enjoy this season with your family and friends.
May Your Christmas Be Blessed,
The Youth Mission Trip 2018
The youth trip was held the week of June 18. We had 5 youth and 6 adults attending our week at Little Grassy UM Camp. We spent our week on Disciple’s Ridge. We bunked in the cabins on the ridge and during the day we were refurbishing the cabins. We painted 4 cabins and put together several beds to furnish the cabins with. We had a wonderful trip working for the Lord. We met new people and spent time in fellowship together every day. It was a wonderful experience for all of us on the trip. We will be talking about our work on August 5 at the church service at the park. Thank you to all who went on the trip and those who donated funds to allow us to go. Stay tuned…we are working on details for next year’s trip.
